As you can see, you have to tackle your essay writing with 4 main assessment criteria, but most of the video resources (Youtube or any other Material) you might be using for preparing IELTS writing helps you a lot in two criteria : Essay Structure and Task response.
So you might be thinking "I'm using English for years now and my grammar is good and spelling mistakes are also very less, why should I bother about Lexical and Grammatical Range part of criteria". but these might be the two major criteria in which you could be losing most part of your scoring.
Let's see how.
Grammatical range and accuracy
Currently our workforce environment and social media lives force us to make our sentences concise and as simple as possible. If you have attended one of those formal presentation skills seminars, do you remember the main point : "Try to convey your idea in 4 bullets or less, people can't remember or focus on more than 4 bullet points."
Our emails are supposed to be small and to the point. so we have the habit of writing in simple straightforward sentences.
But IELTS assessment expects you to include "variety of complex structures". That's why criteria includes the word "Range" in "Grammatical range and accuracy". Lot of exam takers completely misses this part and keeps writing same types of essay with focusing only on improving "Task response".
There are following types of sentences :
- Simple sentences
- Compound sentences
- Complex sentences (Subordinate clause / Correlative sentence)
- Passive sentences
- Question sentences
- Conditional sentences
If you are scoring below 7.0 band in writing consistently, there is a high chance that you are not including enough of Complex sentences in your essays. EssayChecker checks different types of sentences used in Essays and let you know immediately whether you are using enough of complex sentences or not.
Lexical resource
EssayChecker checks for spelling mistakes and word repetitions and provide suggestions for that.
